Frank Wirsig was with VMF-9 at Quantico from 1929-’31, 1933-37, and again in 1940. He retired as Brigadier General and commander of MCAS El Toro, Calif., in 1958.

    Oops – it was VF-9M, then VMF-1 after 1937.

Pix date before July ’41, when they got F4Fs, and probably before February, when the prewar color scheme began to phase out.

My great great grandfather was Frank Alexander Wirsig, uncle of your father Frank Wirsig. They homesteaded in the Sandhills of Nebraska. My parents still live there. Would be happy to share information with you. My grandmother mentioned your father to me.
