Great photos you are posting here , but Pilot Pierce could not have been at Torokina on April 28th 1943 because the Torokina airstrip did not come into use until December 30th 1943 and on that April date even the airstrips in the Russell Islands were not ready yet so this photo had to have been taken on Guadalcanaland my Marine reference list Pierce in VMF-121 mayybe he was in both squadrons . best regards P-38L5LO

I beg your pardon…..Torokina air strip became operational on 10Dec43. Boyington flew the first big fighter sweep out of there with about 80
planes on 17Dec43 and there were additional sweeps throughout the month, including 27 and 28Dec43.

This photo of Pierce was definitely not taken at Guadalcanal, judging from the background foliage. This looks more like Torokina.
